Hendrix heaved out a sigh of relief, as did I. The moment our eyes met, the corners of our lips curved up into a smile.
"Well, now that that's settled, I'll go bring them back. You guys have just recovered from some serious injuries. You should both get some rest after staying up all night."
Aaron turned around to leave.
Hendrix then grabbed his arm and said indifferently, "Evan will take care of it. Emma and the child will arrive in the afternoon. Are you going to go and meet them like this?"
"Emma?" Aaron was confused. "What do you mean?"
Hendrix let go of his hand and approached me, saying, "I mean, two days ago I arranged for a private plane to Mesville. Emma and the child are on their way."
I didn't know he had arranged this, so I was just as confused as Aaron, "You planned for it?"
Hendrix stood still and put a hand on my shoulder, smiling. "Since it's a family reunion, I figured we shouldn't leave anyone out. What's more, you, my brother-in-law, haven't seen your wife and child in such a long time. It's easy to feel stressed out. So, yes, I did plan this in advance for you."
Aaron squinted his eyes slightly and raised his eyebrows, "Why do I feel like you're tricking me?"
Hendrix shrugged and brought me into the conversation. "My dear wife, did I do something wrong?"
"Humph..." What should I say? I could feel Aaron's sharp eyes and Hendrix's puppy dog eyes on me. Whoever I chose to side with didn't matter.
I simply turned around and got out of Hendrix's embrace. I yawned as I walked upstairs. "I'm sleepy. Let's talk about this later. I'll leave the children to you two. I want to get some good sleep. Please don't disturb me. Toodles!"
Hendrix said, "You heard her, my man. Arianna asked you to take care of the children. Now, I have to be with Arianna. Otherwise, she won't be able to sleep well."
"Hey, you guys! Are you kidding me?" Aaron didn't get a word in it. Hendrix disappeared once Aaron reached the stairs. He could only shout at the top of his lungs at how unfair this was. "I'm the president of a company, not your nanny!"
The only response he got was silence from the empty staircase.
