My Pretty Sweetheart novel Chapter 2263

The realization hit me after what seemed like an interminable stretch of time. It usually took around half an hour to cook a steak, not to mention the other food. Even more so, I had already said that I had slept in, so I would have definitely prepared a simpler menu, which meant that these time-consuming dishes would never have appeared.

He was pretending to not see through it. However, his laughter had left no room for acquittal, so all I could do was be honest. "All right, stop laughing. I'll be honest. These were all made by Madeline. Except for the chicken pot pie, that was me. I didn't have time, yet I was afraid you won't be full, and Madeline has already made these to quote- unquote, "nurse you back to health". Everything here is made with sincerity, so who cares which one of us made it, right?"

As my words came to an end, I did feel a little guilty, but I was afraid that Aaron would be picky, so I widened my eyes and threatened, "So, are you going to eat it or not?"

Aaron shrank his neck feebly and picked up the fork again. "I wouldn't dare to do otherwise. If I don't finish this, would I be able to eat the private delicacies made by you and Madeline in the future? I may be a lot of things, but I'm not stupid."

I heaved a sigh of relief. Looks like patients weren't all that difficult to deal with.

Only after watching him eat for a while did I realize that I hadn't seen Emma. As I opened the food container, I asked, "Where's Emma, why is she not here yet?"

"She's home." Aaron didn't even raise his head.

"Huh? No, I didn't see her." I had thought he meant at the Roberts'.

"I'm talking about her parents' home." Aaron swallowed the shrimp dumplings and explained, "My father-in-law's company has been very busy recently, and she is his only daughter. It's proper for her to head back and help him."

"Does that mean, even in the previous times when you guys went back, it was to help the company?" I asked.

"Yep." Aaron's eyes turned cold when he said this. He scooped up a spoonful of pot pie and dangled it in the air, saying with sorrow, "To find you, I took the only pillar of that old couple abroad. Now that she's back, she will, of course, help with whatever she can."

I didn't know what to say at the moment. Love and marriage were never just between two people, there were other intricately linked relationships.

Seeing that I had no response, Aaron immediately brought up the topic, "Hendrix kicked you out of the company, didn't he?"

"How did you know?" I said subconsciously. I only realized it after answering and I immediately continued, "It's no big deal. I won't meddle into the affairs of Roberts Group anymore. Even more so, we don't have any common ground, staying together will only result in continuous arguments. It's better for me to pull out from the group, and well take care of our own things."

"Why don't you just divorce and go your separate ways?" Aaron asked without thinking.

I really had no idea what he was thinking or if he was trying to deliberately mock me. Thus, I simply admitted to the latter and tried to muddle through it with a smile. "You can't mix family and business. We can both shine on our own. Then when we get home, we can complain and console each other. Isn't it great that way? If we shared the same stories all the time, then one would be speaking, while the other listens. After a while, a couple would lose interest in each other. Plus, compared to me, Hendrix always has good insights. Perhaps this time-"

"I really don't know when you became so selfdeceiving." Before Aaron gave me the chance to finish, his eyes, which could easily steal any girl's heart, squinted at me. "Have you forgotten uncle Charles' position? Do you think that if you withheld the truth from me, I wouldn't hear of Hendrix trafficking narcotics?"

"The people in that line of work are extremely evil and black-hearted. Except for money, they could not see anything else. Walk into that underworld and there will be no way out for you. Don't you know how strict the laws of Zuckerburg are? It doesn't matter how smart Hendrix is, once something goes wrong, you and he are going to emulate Bonnie and Clyde and turn into a pair of wanted criminals. Arianna, don't be stupid. Start by doing away with your expectations of him. Set your priorities straight."
