Charles laughed out loud, narrowed his eyes, and said in a low voice, "Be honest, are you two in love?"
Irvin was taken aback. He smiled and said, "Mr. Reid, that's not up to me to decide."
"Hahahaha!"
Everyone laughed and sent Charles off. Irvin and Helen bid each other goodbye shortly after.
Helen took a look at me, and then shot Irvin a serious expression. "You need to have a sense of propriety. Don't make things complicated. If the scandal between you two gets spread across Jarold City, things will get even more complicated with the Reid, Roberts and Granger families involved."
Irvin nodded. He quickly reassured her, "Mom, don't worry. I know what I'm doing!"
Irvin and I then exited the hotel and got into the car.
As we buckled into our seats, I couldn't help but look at him and asked, "Although Charles wants a daughter desperately, he is a high-ranking official. He can't get a daughter randomly, can he?"
He started the car and said with a smile, "You're quite smart, you know that?"
"What do you mean?"
He said while driving, "Aaron was also behind this. He is Charles's nephew, he lives under the same roof, and has mentioned you more than once in front of Charles. I guess you could say that he said all the right things."
I was stunned for a moment before confusions started setting in. "Isn't Aaron's father a businessman?"
He raised his eyebrows. "If you have a chance, ask Aaron. There are not many people in Reid Family and Charles has no children. The other two uncles in the Reid family are either dead or have some sort of disability. So, although the Reid Family is big, it is not populated."
I nodded, deep in thought. A few years ago, Aaron had indeed been brought back by the Reid family in Jarold City. I didn't ask him much about it after, so I had limited knowledge about the finer details. Moreover, we were all young when he came to Hovell, and Grandma never talked about the investment partner who committed suicide.
I had never inquired about Aaron's background for so many years.
After spending the whole night out, I leaned myself against the car, feeling drowsy. While I was in a daze, the car had entered the residential area.
Irvin pulled over and saw that I was sleepy. He asked, "Do you need me to carry you up?"
