I did not say anything. I just took the phone out, glanced at it and slipped it into my bag.
We were both silent during the car ride.
Aaron bought Yana a villa in the Southern District. It had a classic interior design, with a variety of flowers and plants in the small courtyard. Snow was everywhere, so there was not much of a scenic view.
There were two nannies in the villa to take care of Yana and her son. When we arrived, Aaron wasn't around.
Yana was resting in her bedroom. When she heard that we were coming over, she got up and waited for us in the living room.
Seeing her wrapped in thick pajamas, she didn't look as healthy as she did right after giving birth.
When she saw me, she forced out a smile and said, "There you are. Have you eaten?"
She lost so much weight. I couldn't help but ask her about it. "Yes, we have. How did you lose so much weight?"
She smiled, "I just gave birth. Looking thin is normal."
She motioned for us to sit down and asked the nanny to fetch us some water.
I looked around but found that the baby was nowhere in sight. I couldn't help but ask, "Where is the baby?"
"He's sleeping upstairs!" She handed me a bottle of water and said with a smile, "He was delivered prematurely, so his body hasn't fully developed yet. He has to stay in the insulated box for a few more days."
Although she seemed nonchalant about it, my heart ached for her.
Sighing slightly, I said, "It was the same for Anne too. He'll be fine once he grows up."
We chatted for quite a while while Hendrix sat quietly next to me the entire time. He sipped on his water from time to time and didn't interfere. Sometimes when calls came in, he just rejected them and continued sitting beside me quietly.
This didn't go unnoticed by Yana. Halfway through our conversation, she looked at Hendrix and said, "Mr. Roberts, I'm sure you've not seen a one-month-old child before. You must be bored out of your mind sitting there. Why don't you go on up and take a look? When you and Arianna have your own, you'd know what a newborn baby looks like."
