Anger rushed through my veins, and I wanted to hit him so hard. My eyes darted to the glass of red wine on the table; I took it up in one swift move and splashed it on his face without a second thought. "If she asked me to come, I wouldn't have come now. She's been suffering so much on her own, and yet you still think that she deserves it? Aaron, you deserve a long life of loneliness."
Suddenly, his expression changed. He looked at me with his pair of dark eyes. His voice was low and menacing when he said, "So, you also think that I should be alone?"
My mind went blank for a moment before I suddenly came to my senses. What Aaron feared most was being a drifter who had no one in his life.
I paused for a while and said, "This was your own doing. You said that you fear loneliness, but think about what you did. Yana stayed with you through thick and thin without any complaints or regrets for a decade. She knew you were scared of being alone, and even though she was in poor health, she still gave birth to a child for you."
"Even if her family was poor, and all of you looked down on her, she could easily find someone to care for her with her personality and beauty. If it wasn't because of her love for you and her desire to stay with you to keep you from being lonely, do you think it'll be hard for her to find another man? No woman in the world would want to marry a man who doesn't love her. So, why did she do all this? As self-torture?"
I stared at Aaron's startled face and continued, "Aaron, you can continue doing all this. When Yana has been disappointed enough, she will wake up one day and realize that this is not the life she wants, and that she could leave with her child and still lead a good life out there. But what about you? Without her, do you think you can meet someone like her who is so willing to accept all of you? You can dream on. The women you meet now are all after your status and money. Do you really think Eunice Hathaway has feelings for you? If not for you and your status as the eldest of the Reid family, will she spare a glance your way? You should know better."
When I finished, his expression darkened. I didn't want to say anything more so I left with Freya.
After leaving the nightclub, Freya clicked her tongue and said, "I thought you weren't good with words and wouldn't want to say anything. I didn't expect you to come up with all that."
I sighed and shrugged, "He's my brother, after all. I can't let him go on like this forever. Yana's a good girl, and he should not let her down."
She nodded, "To be honest, Yana's a good person. If she was local, Charles probably wouldn't even care that much even if her family isn't wealthy. But she's from South East Asia. Once she becomes Aaron's wife, she would give Charles enough reason to be abdicated. Aaron's worries are understandable."
Of course, I understood his concerns. I sighed slightly and said helplessly, "But now that the child is born, he can't leave her alone. Since he can't marry her, he should at least take care of the child. He shouldn't be fooling around with other women."
She shrugged, "That's true!"
After a pause, she took out the sandalwood box from her bag and handed it to me. "There you go. This is what Valerie asked me to give you. This box had only been opened once, and the key is still with Hendrix. If you want to take a look inside, you'll have to ask Hendrix for the key."
