A Widow's Poison A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 765

The next morning, Reba came looking for Starla.

Neither Elmer nor Yardley had come home last night. The last time Starla visited, she stayed for a week and would go two or three days without seeing either of them. In a family like this, quality time was both fleeting and a massive luxury.

Starla was eating breakfast when Reba approached respectfully. Starla gave a slight nod, not saying anything. Last night, her brother had told her to follow Reba's lead, not the other way around. She still had no idea what she was supposed to be doing with her.

Reba checked her watch. "Miss, we need to leave by nine."

"So soon?" It was already eight-forty, and she had just started eating.

Reba nodded. "Yes. And you'll need to change into something loose and casual."

Starla was wearing a flowy dress. Hearing the wardrobe change request deepened her curiosity—and sparked a faint sense of dread.

"Where exactly are we going?" she asked.

"You'll see when we get there."

Despite the evasive answer and her growing unease, Starla nodded. After all, Yardley had arranged this. Her own brother wouldn't put her in danger, right? But she would soon learn that sometimes, her brother's plans felt exactly like a death sentence.

After rushing through breakfast, Starla headed upstairs. She pulled Garret aside. "Look into who helped Brinley Seabrook in Marina City."

She had spent half the night agonizing over who would dare lend Brinley a hand right after she left town. Tanya suspected Fairfax, but Starla knew he wouldn't lift a finger for Brinley now.

"Understood," Garret replied.
