Abandoned by All I Took It All Back novel Chapter 269

That afternoon, the patient was wheeled into the operating room. Jensen was the attending physician.

Even though she had given birth before via C-section, lying on the operating table now, she couldn't help but feel a little nervous.

She felt the rhythmic contractions in her abdomen, gritting her teeth against the pain as she waited for the anesthesiologist.

Just then, a nurse approached with a chart to confirm her information.

"Vivian, we're about to administer the epidural. I need you to sit up and hug your knees," the nurse instructed before continuing with her pre-op preparations.

Vivian gripped the bed rail and pulled herself into a sitting position. She did as she was told, tucking her head between her knees and curling her back, her arms wrapped around her legs.

When she saw the doctor approaching with a long, thick needle, a wave of fear washed over her.

She had always been afraid of pain. Whenever she was sick, she would always take pills instead of getting an IV, just to avoid needles.

She hadn't even been able to watch when they drew her blood during her prenatal checkups.

This was her first major surgery.

Her first child had been a natural birth at Southside Hospital, and the episiotomy had been excruciating. She still shuddered at the memory.

She had heard that Dr. Parnell at New Vista Medical Center was a brilliant surgeon, a miracle worker in the maternity ward. She had even pulled every connection she had to get an appointment with him.

With that thought, Vivian looked at the doctor who was busy preparing his instruments and asked worriedly, "Dr. Parnell, how long will the surgery take? I'm a little scared."

Hearing her question, Jensen looked up at Vivian, his voice gentle and reassuring.

"Not long at all. It'll be over before you know it. Don't worry, just relax."

Perhaps it was his calming words, but Vivian felt a surge of strength.

Dr. Parnell's gentle encouragement chased away her fear, and her body slowly began to relax.

After the anesthesia took effect, she lay on the table, staring up at the ceiling, the pain in her abdomen gone.

Soon, a numb sensation spread through the upper half of her body.

A nurse touched her abdomen with the tip of a scalpel and asked, "Vivian, can you feel any pain here?"

"No pain," Vivian answered honestly.

"How about here?"
