Janina's eyes flickered as she quickly weighed the pros and cons. Jensen and Madonna knew her.
But the other staff members didn't.
The maternity ward had a high turnover rate; she might not be recognized.
Besides, caregivers wore masks most of the time, so she'd likely go unnoticed.
And even if she was discovered, so what? She was just an employee.
"I'm in," Janina said decisively.
They shook on it, a silent agreement sealing their plan. It was a good idea.
The atmosphere in the car instantly became charged with tension.
Back home, Janina only told Maggie about the plan.
She kept it from Wendy and Melody.
Melody was swamped with filming, and her phone was usually with her assistant. This was a sensitive matter, and she couldn't risk anyone else seeing their messages.
As for Wendy, her home life was a mess lately. Apparently, her brother Baron had quit his job again and was up to god-knows-what.
Wendy had tried calling him, but he wouldn't answer.
He didn't reply to her texts either.
Finally, Wendy had to threaten to call the police before he reluctantly returned her call. He claimed he wasn't feeling well, that his epilepsy was acting up and giving him severe headaches, so he needed to rest and couldn't work for a while.
Although Wendy was suspicious, Baron sent her a copy of his medical report from the hospital, and she had no choice but to believe he was genuinely sick.
When Wendy's mother heard her son was ill, she cried incessantly, begging Wendy to send Baron some money and promising to pay her back eventually.
But it didn't end there. She also mentioned that Baron had a girlfriend, and things were getting serious. If all went well, they were planning to get married this year.
The catch was, the girlfriend's family was demanding Baron buy a car. So, Mrs. Clifford's brilliant idea was for Wendy to front the money for the car.
She promised that after Baron got married, he would earn money and pay her back.
Wendy was at her wits' end and had started avoiding her mother's calls.
