Before Easton could get close, he saw the other man throw a punch, catching West squarely on the face. West staggered back a couple of steps.
Blood instantly trickled from the corner of his mouth.
West clutched his reddening cheek, his eyes filled with a mixture of anger and confusion. Before he could react, the man, Clark, swung again.
Summer and Fairchild were chatting as they walked and hadn't noticed the commotion. All they saw was a blur of motion as Easton shot past them.
The next thing they knew, Easton had landed a solid punch on the other man's face.
Summer and Fairchild rushed over.
"West, why didn't you fight back when he hit you?" Easton helped his brother up, his voice a blend of reprimand and concern.
Their parents had never laid a hand on any of them growing up. Who was this outsider to be punching his brother in the face?
He could take a hit himself, but he couldn't stand by and watch his siblings get bullied.
As the eldest, he was fiercely protective.
Easton shielded West behind him and glared at the man who was now getting to his feet.
The man was Clark, Marjorie Sullivan's boyfriend.
Clark straightened up, wiping a smear of blood from his lip, his face a mask of fury.
His gaze shot past Easton to West. "You have the guts to do it but not the balls to admit it, huh? Are you even a man?"
Everyone was completely baffled, with no idea what had happened between them.
West stepped out from behind his brother, staring coldly at Clark. "What's your problem? You just walk in here and start swinging without any explanation. You really think I'm an easy target?"
As he spoke, West raised his right hand and threw a punch at Clark.
