West personally inspected the restaurant's hygiene every day.
He had never once seen anything like the scenes in those photos and videos.
Janina trusted her brother. Besides, The Tasting Room's kitchen was spotless right now, not a trace of filth or disarray.
She calmly analyzed the situation. “West, let’s think this through. Is the background in the photos really The Tasting Room's kitchen? Could they have been Photoshopped? Also, we need to know when these were taken. The photographer must have gotten into the kitchen when no one was looking. It might even be one of the kitchen staff.”
West ran a frustrated hand through his hair.
“I had a professional look at the photos and video. They confirmed it's our kitchen. The shots were taken after hours, but I can't figure out where all that filth came from.”
“As for it being one of the staff,” he continued, “they have no reason to do this. I pay them well, and I treat them fairly. Unless one of them holds a deep grudge against me.”
West couldn't make sense of it. He wanted to rule out his own employees.
But as soon as the thought crossed his mind, he dismissed it. Who else would be so familiar with the kitchen?
At this point, West was completely baffled.
“Has anything strange happened these past few days? Or has anyone else entered the kitchen?” Janina asked.
West thought for a moment. The staff was always busy cooking and serving. Nothing out of the ordinary.
“Nothing special happened. Other than when you brought your friends for a tour, no one else has been in here. Only employees of The Tasting Room can access the kitchen.”
Janina was at a loss as well.
Her friends would never do something like this. And they had all gone in together that day, staying for less than three minutes before leaving.
The kitchen was clean and orderly at the time. If they had taken any photos, it would have been of a pristine kitchen.
The kitchen in the pictures was a world apart from what they had seen.
Under the officer's authoritative presence, the man reluctantly left The Tasting Room.
The police took statements from every employee in the kitchen.
Because the surveillance system was broken, they couldn't find any concrete evidence.
The police were also frustrated but could only investigate through other means.
After taking statements, the officers took a few photos and videos of the current state of the kitchen and left, promising to investigate as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, the public outcry online continued to ferment, seemingly fanned by an invisible hand.
The calls to boycott The Tasting Room grew louder and more intense.
Food safety was a line that could not be crossed in the public’s mind.
