Summer shook her head. "No, it's not that."
"Then what is it?"
Seeing Janina's wide, curious eyes fixed on her, Summer couldn't resist reaching out and gently pinching her cheek.
"Two months ago, Easton had a fever. Fairchild was out in the fields somewhere, and I was worried Easton would go hungry, so I brought some food over for him. He was lying in bed, completely drained of energy, so I fed him."
As she spoke, Summer lowered her head slightly, picking at her nails.
"After he ate, he lay back down. He must have been delirious from the fever. When I went to change the towel on his forehead, he suddenly grabbed my hand and wouldn't let go. Later, Fairchild came back and saw him holding my hand, and he started teasing that we were a couple…"
"Don't take anything Fairchild says seriously. He's just a kid. You two are adults; surely you're not embarrassed by a little joke from him!"
After saying that, Janina had a realization. There was definitely more to the story between Summer and her brother.
And she was right.
Summer continued, "It wasn't just that. On the third day, Easton was better. I was in the kitchen cooking and accidentally cut my hand. He saw it and immediately rushed over… he was so tense. He held my hand and wouldn't let go, even after Fairchild had already bandaged the wound. It was only when Fairchild started laughing at him that we both realized and quickly pulled our hands away."
"After that, things weren't as natural between us as they used to be. Whenever we see each other, we subconsciously avoid eye contact. I…"
Listening to the story, Janina was shocked. She never expected such a chain reaction to happen between her brother and Summer.
Easton liked Summer.
And did Summer like him back?
