Natalie rushed to steady the wavering Janina. “Janina, what’s wrong?”
Janina’s call with Maggie continued. No one else in the room spoke, their gazes fixed anxiously on Janina.
A moment later, Janina hung up, her body trembling uncontrollably.
“Mom, Dad, something’s happened to my friend. I have to go back to Clayborne City. I’ll leave Liam and Joy with you.”
With that, Janina, fighting to control her shaking, grabbed nothing and bolted into the courtyard, flung open a car door, and got inside.
Her hands rested on the steering wheel.
Her heart refused to calm down, and her hands wouldn't stop shaking.
Just then, someone knocked on the car window.
Janina looked up. It was her third brother.
The window rolled down, and West’s brow was furrowed. “I’ll drive you.”
Janina wiped her face haphazardly and nodded in a daze, unlocking the doors. In her current state, she really wasn't fit to drive.
Grace, Ethan, and the other Holt siblings all ran out.
“Nina, what happened? You don’t look well at all.”
Grace stood outside the car window, looking at her daughter’s barely restrained emotions. She had a gut feeling it had something to do with Wendy.
Faced with her mother's concern and the worried looks from her siblings, Janina didn't hide it.
“Something happened at Wendy's house. I have to go back.”
That one sentence was all they needed to understand.
The Holts all knew about Janina's close friends. To Janina, they were closer than family.
“Okay, you be careful. If you need our help, just give us a call.” Grace gently patted her daughter's shoulder.
