Finch hadn't expected Jamie to actually jump to her death.

But it didn't matter.

He would simply finish what Jamie had failed to do.

Shaking off the thought, Finch walked into the hospital room.

The moment he saw West, his brow furrowed slightly.

But he kept his expression neutral.

He used to control Wendy's interactions with other men, cutting off all her male connections. There was no need for that now. In two days, she'd be leaving with him for Dawnhaven anyway.

He didn't bother wondering why West was in Wendy's room at this hour. He was certain Wendy's heart belonged only to him.

West was Janina's brother, so he must have been here at Janina's request.

That thought made Finch feel much better.

He gave West a slight nod in greeting before walking over to Wendy's bed.

Finch put on a look of utter heartache as he gazed at Wendy.

"Wendy, what happened? How did you get hurt like this? It's all my fault. If only I'd called you sooner, if I'd apologized earlier, you wouldn't be in this state."

Wendy had no patience for his performance. If it weren't for the plan she had in motion, she would have kicked him out of the room.

She reined in her emotions and managed a weak smile, her tone even and devoid of blame.

"It's not your fault. I was just being careless. We're leaving for Dawnhaven in two days, and time is tight. I'm stuck recovering in the hospital, so I can't go get my things. I have some gold and cash hidden at Nina's house in the suburbs. I need you to go get it, and tomorrow you can exchange the gold and deposit it into an account."

Finch froze.

Wendy had hidden gold and cash?

How did he not know about this?

Finch felt that something was a little off about the three of them, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
