“Liam and Joy have been poisoned. It’s serious. I need to treat them immediately. If I’m too late, the kids will have brain damage.” Before Janina could even get close, Fairchild’s bombshell nearly made her collapse.
Janina stumbled toward Fairchild, grabbing his arm, her eyes wide with lingering terror. “Fairchild, are you saying the children… were poisoned? How… how could this happen?”
She couldn’t form a complete sentence. Her tongue felt heavy, and tears streamed down her face instantly.
Liam and Joy were so young. All their food was prepared at home; they never ate out. Their formula and rice cereal were international brands that other children also used. As for their solid food, the ingredients were always fresh. She couldn’t imagine how the two children could have been poisoned.
But if Fairchild was certain they were poisoned, then there was no doubt.
Fairchild continued to prepare the medicinal herbs in his hands, glancing at Janina. “And you’re just as useless. The kids are poisoned, and you’re poisoned yourself. Can’t you feel anything wrong with your body?”
Janina was terrified. No wonder she had been feeling so exhausted lately. She had assumed it was from her heavy workload and hadn’t paid it much mind. This morning, she had slept until after ten and had to be woken up. Such an obvious symptom, and she had just thought she was tired.
Thank goodness she had called Fairchild back in time. Otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
Seeing Janina’s shell-shocked expression, Fairchild poked her forehead with a finger, a hint of frustration in his voice. “What am I going to do with you? Last time it was a kidnapping, this time it’s poisoning. Who on earth did you manage to provoke out there?”
Fairchild suddenly stopped, tilting his head. “Wait, did you become someone’s mistress? Is the wife getting her revenge?”
