The next morning, Janina was jolted awake by a series of alarms and a frantic barrage of calls from Kenneth.

The familiar wave of exhaustion had returned.

Without even washing her face, she went downstairs. No one else was awake yet, except for Land, who was busy in the kitchen.

Janina sent Land out to buy groceries, creating a window for Kenneth to come inside.

Seeing her lack of energy, Kenneth dropped the jokes and looked her up and down.

“You don’t look so good. You seem really sick. Anyone who didn’t know better would think you just had a major illness.”

Janina slumped onto the sofa, her voice weak. “This poison is no joke. It’s not that easy to get rid of. The toxins probably haven’t been fully cleared out yet.”

Kenneth shook his head. “You rich people have too many problems. Look at me, broke as a joke. Not even a thief would bother with me.”

Janina didn't have the energy to argue. She feigned a frown. “Alright, enough with the wisecracks. Let’s get to work.”
