Kenneth sent Janina the file on the man from the airport.
His name was Madden, 33 years old, from Portsborough, Valerium. He had grown up in Meridia Country and currently worked for a publicly listed company there. His trips to Valerium were mostly for business or to visit his hometown of Portsborough.
The file showed that Madden and Yvonne had attended the same university in Meridia, but there was no record of them being close. Furthermore, Madden had already left Valerium three days ago.
Janina's heart sank. If he were still in Valerium, she might have been able to find some clues. But in Meridia, it would be much harder. Without catching Madden, she couldn't continue the investigation. He was the key. Janina contacted Kenneth again, asking if he could find out more about him.
Kenneth said he would try his best, but it would take some time.
Janina wondered if she had been wrong. What if the person behind this wasn't Yvonne at all, but someone else?
Returning to her empty room, her mind felt cluttered and confused. She put her phone aside, deciding to stop thinking altogether and let her mind go completely blank.
Kenneth continued his surveillance for two more months, but there was still no activity from Yvonne or Elena. During this time, Janina faced no further threats. The children were doing well in the countryside, and the crystal ball incident began to feel like a distant nightmare.
The toxins were completely flushed from Janina's system, and her life returned to its normal rhythm of commuting to and from work. However, she didn't dare let her guard down and told Kenneth to keep a close watch on Yvonne and Elena. She trusted her intuition; she knew this wasn't just a random attack. Besides, Madden's appearance was definitely no coincidence.
By mid-December, the weather had turned cold.
