After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 939

Stephanie had a house full of kids and grandkids. If she ever felt lonely eating alone, all she had to do was pick up the phone and the place would be packed in no time.

Cynthia understood exactly what was going on, but because of Stephanie’s age and position in the family, she didn’t say anything. She figured her daughter saw through it too.

Harold pulled the car into the driveway and Isabella was the first to step out. The moment she saw her mom, uncle, and aunt waiting with big smiles, a wave of warmth washed over her.

Home was a safe place, a shelter from everything outside. As long as her family was there, coming home always felt like the world’s troubles couldn’t touch her. Their faces were filled with joy just seeing her walk through the door. It was impossible not to feel lighter.

“Mom, Uncle, Aunt,” Isabella called out.

“You’re back. It’s pretty late… Wait, what happened to your face? Who did this to you? Your cheek is so swollen. Who on earth hit you?” Cynthia’s smile faded in an instant when she noticed Isabella’s red, puffy cheek. Worry and anger took over.

Her uncle and aunt hurried over, bombarding her with questions.

Harold had barely gotten out of the car before Isabella’s uncle started grilling him too.

“Uncle, Aunt, can we go inside first?” Isabella said, trying to keep things calm.

“What’s going on? Isabella, are you alright?” Stephanie, who had just come in, caught the end of the conversation and rushed over, worry etched across her face. “Isabella, what happened?”

Paul, her husband’s brother, tried to take advantage of her. When he didn’t get his way, he threatened to sell her off to someone else as a wife. He told her if she didn’t give in, he’d send her to the mountains where she’d have no way to escape and would be forced to marry some old bachelor. He even said he’d sell her daughter too.

Even with all his threats, Cynthia refused to back down. She cursed him out and never gave in. The things they did to her… she could never forget.

After she remarried into the Lane family, she and Isabella finally had some peace. The Lane name kept them safe for twenty years. At least they didn’t have to worry about being sold off anymore.

But now, with both of them divorced, those people had crawled out of the woodwork again.

Thankfully, Isabella was grown up now. Neither of them was the same weak, helpless person from twenty years ago.
