If Isabella was ever going to come back, she never would have pushed so hard for the divorce in the first place.
“You hurt her too much, Ethan. She’s not looking back. You made your bed, now you have to lie in it.”
Ethan paused, his voice low. “Grandma, I’ve only ever fallen for two women in my whole life. I let Natalie go. If I let Isabella go too, I don’t know if I’ll ever love anyone again.”
He tried to joke, “Do you really want your grandson to stay single forever?”
Stephanie sighed. “That’s just how it is, Ethan. I told you before, but you wouldn’t listen. Now look where it’s gotten you. Regret doesn’t help anyone at this point.”
She shook her head. “Harold’s not lacking in anything compared to you. In fact, he treats Isabella with more respect than you ever did. I’m worried she’ll pick him in the end. Then you’ll just have to watch someone else live the happy life you threw away.”
Ethan had been born into the Adams family, given every comfort and privilege, and had a top spot in society. When it came to love, though, he was a mess.
He stayed quiet.
Stephanie let out another sigh. “Fine, do whatever you want. If you end up alone, that’s on you. I’ll help you if I can, but if I can’t, there’s nothing more I can do.”
“I’ll keep an eye out for other girls. If I find someone good, I’ll remember her for you. Once Isabella marries Harold, I’ll set you up on some blind dates.”
Ethan still didn’t say a word.
Stephanie knew he was hurting. She didn’t push him any further. “I’m tired, Ethan. Grandma’s going to rest now. I’m hanging up.”
With that, she ended the call.
Meanwhile, after Harold left, he headed over to the little hotel where the George family was staying.
Wait a minute. Wasn’t Harold the one chasing after Isabella?
Peter had heard the Carter family was loaded too. Maybe not quite as rich as the Adams family, but still one of the city’s big names. Harold was young, handsome, and had money to spare.
Peter cursed Isabella in his head. How did that girl get so lucky?
First, she married into a rich family. Now, even after the divorce, the guy after her is still a rich young master.
Thinking about Isabella’s looks, Peter had to admit she was stunning—she got the best features from her mother. Even his own late son had been the best looking among all his kids. Isabella took after both parents, and somehow ended up even more beautiful.
“We’re free anytime. Where are you, Harold? Just tell us where to meet.”
As soon as he realized it was Harold, Peter’s attitude flipped completely.
