Isabella didn’t say anything.
Sophia’s marriage wasn’t her concern. Even if she were still Mrs. Adams, it wouldn’t be her place to interfere, much less now that she and Ethan were divorced.
“If you really like Harold, I’ll talk to Ethan and try to convince him to move on. He’s just so pitiful right now. He loved two women, and in the end, he lost them both.”
Isabella shook her head. “Stephanie, he doesn’t love me. The only person he’s ever truly cared about is Natalie.”
“All he feels toward me is guilt.”
Stephanie studied her face for a moment. “Isabella, I’ve been around long enough to know what love looks like. Ethan has fallen for you. He’s already let go of Natalie.”
“He told me himself, letting go of Natalie wasn’t as hard as he thought.”
“Harold is a wonderful man, but I still hope you’ll give Ethan another chance. You were married once, you shared a life together.”
“It’s true, Ethan made mistakes. He took you for granted, used you, and broke your heart. But he knows that now, and he’s trying to make things right. I always liked you as my granddaughter-in-law, Isabella. Won’t you please consider giving Ethan another chance?”
Isabella kept walking, her voice quiet. “Grandma, the best Ethan and I can be now is friends. We’ll never be husband and wife again.”
“So you really hate him that much?”
Isabella paused, thinking. “I don’t hate him anymore. I’m tired of hating. It’s just too much.”
Stephanie let out a long sigh. “So you really don’t love him anymore. When the love is gone, the hate goes with it.”
Now that Harold was in Isabella’s life—someone just as outstanding as Ethan—her grandson couldn’t compete, even if he realized his mistakes.
“Ethan, the George family came to bother Isabella again. There were a lot of them this time. They even tried to lay hands on her. The ones who hit her got detained.”
“They’re demanding money, a house, a car. It’s unbelievable. After everything they did to Cynthia and Isabella in the past, how can they show up now asking for so much?”
Stephanie was completely disgusted with the George family.
Ethan’s voice was steady. “I know, Grandma. I’ll take care of them when I get back. While I’m away, please keep an eye on Isabella for me.”
“She doesn’t need me to protect her. She has Harold. Honestly, I think she might be starting to fall for him.”
Stephanie sighed again, her voice gentle but firm. “Ethan, maybe it’s time to let go. Stop chasing after Isabella. I can see she’s truly moved on and won’t come back.”
