“The divorce was never her fault, you know. Why should she spend the rest of her life alone just because Ethan used her? There are still good men out there.”
Not every guy is like Ethan.
“I just hope Isabella figures that out soon, gives Harold a chance, and finds happiness again. As for Ethan, let him regret it for the rest of his life.”
No matter what Ethan tried now, Isabella would never take him back.

Harold took Isabella out to dinner at one of the Carter Group’s nicest hotels. On the drive over, he glanced at her, his voice gentle. “Did you get everything sorted out?”
Isabella pressed the button to open her window a little. The breeze rushed in, cool and refreshing.
“Harold, you can turn off the AC. The outside air feels better.”
He nodded, opened his own window, and switched off the air conditioning without a word.
“I wasn’t actually on a business trip,” Isabella said after a moment.
“My mom and I went back to our hometown. Natalie convinced my grandparents to film a video of me coldly rejecting them, then posted it online to get people to turn against me.”
“She thought she could force my hand, so I had to be ready to fight back.”
“I didn’t tell you what was really going on because I was worried you’d want to come with me. Your identity is too obvious, and my grandparents would’ve recognized you right away. That’s why I kept it from you.”
“Everyone still remembers how badly they treated me—how they tried to sell me when I was little. People haven’t forgiven them. They talk about it openly, even now.”
“We also went to visit my dad’s grave.”
“My hometown is doing much better these days. It’s right by the ocean, so during tourist season, all the hotels and restaurants are busy. People go out fishing, too, and it’s a lot safer than it was when my dad was alive.”
Her father had died in a fishing accident more than twenty years ago.
“Once I win the lawsuit and get my dad’s house and restaurant back, I want to start over. I’ll rebuild everything, turn it into a hotel, and put a restaurant on the first two floors. Tourists could stay there and eat, and the place is perfect—close to the beach.”
Her uncle had no idea how to run a business. That’s why things were falling apart. He always tried to overcharge people, got fined over and over, but never learned. The business just kept getting worse.
