After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 1040

York finally looked up at her.

He said, “Look at you, all stressed out. I didn’t do anything. I never sent your husband any pictures. I never talked to him about you, either. So why are you taking it out on me?”

“But you still didn’t do what I asked.”

York kept going, “I told you to seduce Ethan, but you couldn’t pull it off. In fact, now he’s even farther away from you. He likes Isabella now. Not you.”

“Natalie, honestly, you blew it. You had everything in your favor, and you still managed to mess it all up.”

Natalie’s voice softened. “Ethan’s a decent man. He would never touch me while I’m still married to Jordan.”

“He’s on a business trip,” she added quietly. “He hasn’t come back yet. When he does, I’ll try again. But now I’m pregnant, and Jordan’s asking if the baby is his. Why would he even ask that? He must know something.”

York flicked his cigarette into the ashtray, picked up his wine, and took a couple of slow sips. He swirled the glass, watching the wine trace patterns along the side.

“I really haven’t been in touch with your husband, never spoke to him, never sent him any photos,” he said. “But those photos of you? I sent them to Isabella.”

“What? You sent them to Isabella? York, if you want me gone, just kill me outright! Don’t use me to do your dirty work and then stab me in the back!”

Natalie nearly lost it.

“Isabella and I are enemies. You know that it’s me or her, no middle ground. And you still sent her those pictures. What are you playing at? Are you going after Isabella and Ethan, or are you coming after me?”

She wished Isabella would just disappear. Isabella probably felt the same way about her.

If people could kill without paying the price, Isabella would’ve torn Natalie to shreds by now, and Natalie wasn’t about to let Isabella live either.

If Ethan had also come back, maybe he’d remember York, or maybe not. York had killed people, broken the law, but Isabella’s death wasn’t his doing.

York had been furious about his sentence, angry and refusing to accept it, but his appeal changed nothing.

Natalie received the death penalty, too.

She had even more blood on her hands than he did.

“As long as Isabella loses everything, she won't be able to get back together with Ethan, and she can forget about marrying Harold, too. Her life will be over. That would be the harshest payback. So, Natalie, do you have the guts to go through with it?”

York kept nudging Natalie toward that final step.
