Jordan fell silent again.
"If that's all, Jordan, I'm hanging up."
When he didn't reply, Isabella ended the call.
Tossing her phone onto her desk, Isabella leaned back and swiveled her chair side to side. After a moment, she grabbed her phone again and dialed Stephanie's number.
Stephanie was keeping vigil by Ethan's side, so calling her was the only way to reach him.
Stephanie picked up almost immediately.
"Stephanie,"
Isabella began gently, checking in on Ethan first. "How is Ethan doing today? Is he in better spirits?"
Stephanie looked over at her grandson, who was still entirely immobilized in his hospital bed. Ethan's condition was frail; he spent most of his time asleep and was currently dozing off again.
After brushing so closely with death, it was a miracle he had survived at all. A full recovery was going to take a very long time.
"He's about the same. Very weak, and still sleeping more than he's awake. He still can't eat solid foods and is surviving on an IV drip. The doctors said we might be able to give him some plain oatmeal starting tomorrow."
"His injuries were incredibly severe, and he's only just been pulled off the critical list. It will take time, but he'll recover."
"Please take care of yourself too, Stephanie. You should go home and rest while the younger family members take turns watching him. Ethan is resilient. He'll show real improvement in a few days."
Isabella offered her comforting words, genuinely concerned about the elderly woman's health.
"I only come during the day," Stephanie replied. "His parents and his aunts and uncles take the night shifts. The younger boys have to focus on keeping the company running."
With Ethan incapacitated, the massive weight of The Adams Group had landed squarely on Jeremy and Frank's shoulders.
