Chapter 88

Drake

1 drummed my fingers against my mahogany desk, watching Luke flip through his phone. His eyes kept darting toward the bullpen every few minutes, distracting me from our discussion about the Silver Ridge project.

“Is Elsa back to work today?” he finally asked, setting down the folder.

My jaw tightened involuntarily. “Of course she is. She’s my assistant.” My person. Mine. Fuck, why is everyone suddenly so interested in

her? “She’s just playing hard to get with this resignation nonsense.”

Luke leaned back in his chair, a knowing look crossing his face. “You know, Rex has been asking about her. I saw them talking on campus

yesterday.”

The pen in my hand snapped, blue ink staining my fingers. Goddamn it. White-hot rage surged through my veins. Another wolf circling what’s mine. That fucking college kid sniffing around my territory. The thought of his hands anywhere near Elsa made my blood boil.

“The college kid? He’s barely out of puberty,” I snarled, wiping ink from my palm. My wolf clawed beneath my skin, demanding to be released, to hunt down this threat.

“Well, Rex might be young, but he’s sharp. Top of his class in IT,” Luke said, watching my reaction carefully. “And you have to admit, Elsa draws attention. Perfect proportions, those curves… and something about her in a suit is just…”

My eyes flashed gold, a growl rumbling in my chest, and Luke quickly backtracked. How dare he even look at her that way. She’s MINE.

“I’m just saying, she’s popular. And Allen seems interested too. You know how he likes intelligent omegas.”

“Both Moonlight brothers?” My wolf nearly broke through, territorial rage burning like acid in my gut.

“You know what they say about the Moonlight family,” Luke warned, lowering his voice. “If you touch one of them, you’re responsible all the way. They don’t do casual.”

I growled low in my throat. “She’s mine. She signed a contract.”

“A contract that ends in what, a week?” Luke reminded me. “And she’s already looking for replacements. That Susan girl’s resume-

Through the glass walls of my office, I spotted Elsa at her desk. One of the male wolves from accounting was leaning over her space, offering her a box of pastries. My vision narrowed, a red haze settling at the edges. That bastard was practically drooling over her. I focused on the way her skirt hugged her hips when she stood slightly to decline whatever he was offering.

Jesus fucking Christ, can’t I leave her alone for five minutes without some wolf trying to mark her? My teeth ground together so hard I thought they might crack.

1 snatched up my phone and dialed her extension. “Ms. Hale. My office. Now.”

I watched her make her excuses, placing a hand on her jaw as if she had a toothache, then gesturing at her waistline to indicate some excuse about dieting. Clever girl, always finding ways to refuse food offerings from other wolves.

“You’re playing with fire, Luke muttered, gathering his papers. “She’s not going to take your shit forever, Drake.”

“She’ll take whatever I give her,” I said dismissively, though something cold and unsettling twisted in my gut at his words. She wouldn’t actually leave me, would she? Fuck, I’d burn this whole company down before I’d let another wolf have her. “That’s what she agreed to.”

When Elsa pushed open my door moments later, her scent hit me-vanilla and citrus, but underneath it… something else. Something

masculine. My nostrils flared, rage bubbling up like lava.

“Close the door and shut the blinds,” I ordered, my voice deceptively calm while my mind screamed with possessive fury. “I don’t want

anyone seeing this.”

She hesitated, her blue eyes wary, but complied, drawing the blinds closed before turning to face me.

“You wanted to see me, Mr. Stone?” Her voice was professional, distant. It made my wolf snarl and pace, desperate to claim what was ours.

I held up Susan Moonlight’s resume. “What the fuck is this?”
