Without all those complications, Aurora would have stayed by his side peacefully.
Now that she was even taking the initiative to ask for his help, that alone was a huge step forward.
In the past, Aurora would’ve kept everything to herself, never voicing any request for help.
Lucas actually hoped she would rely on him.
It made him feel needed.
No matter if his presence beside her began from use or sincerity, that feeling of being needed made him feel worthy.
That was why his feelings toward Yvonne were so complicated.
“Even when you were still in the country, you weren’t working properly. With all that noise online, do you really expect me to believe you knew nothing about it?”
Yvonne froze on the spot.
“I didn’t know about those things online.”
She was still pretending, trying to protect her last shred of dignity.
But Lucas saw through her completely. She was the kind of person who’d do anything to get what she wanted.
“I’ll ask you one last time. Are you coming back or not?”
Lucas spoke seriously. “I know what you’re thinking. But when I called your parents, it was only because I wanted them to keep an eye on you.
“I never told them to bring you back immediately. That was their way of handling things. It had nothing to do with me.
“If you still refuse to see reason, then there’s nothing more for us to talk about.”
Hearing his tone, Yvonne began to panic.
