How could he be so cluelessly blunt?
Yvonne took a deep breath, unsure what to even feel anymore.
Saying something like that right in front of both Lucas and Aurora—wasn’t that just humiliating her?
Especially since he knew perfectly well that she and Aurora didn’t get along.
To Yvonne, Lucas’ words felt more like a public slap in the face.
“What do you mean by that?”
Her confused voice came through the phone.
Lucas replied as if nothing was wrong. “I’m just asking Aurora for her opinion. No matter what, we’re married now, and there should be no secrets between us.”
“What about me then?”
Yvonne’s voice trembled. It felt as if her heart had shattered into pieces.
She never thought she meant so little to him—that he didn’t care at all whether she was hurt or not.
His heart, it seemed, belonged entirely to Aurora.
If that was the case, why was she still clinging to him?
The more she thought about it, the more foolish she felt.
All her past efforts had gone to waste.
“I’ve already said it before—between you and Aurora, I’ll always stand on her side.”
Lucas gave a small, humorless laugh. “So, stop asking questions like that. There’s really no point in repeating the same meaningless things.”
On the other end of the line, Yvonne suddenly shouted, “Aurora, stop pretending to be so kind. I don’t need your pity.”
Lucas had the call on speaker, so everyone heard it clearly.
Aurora paused, but she didn’t show much reaction.
“Think what you want. I’m just speaking the truth,” she said calmly. “No matter what’s between us, Mr. Smith is innocent and so is this show.
“Why should it suffer because of our personal grudges? Don’t you think what you’re doing is crossing the line?”
Yvonne let out a cold laugh. “You don’t have to act like some saint right now. I know exactly what kind of person I am. You don’t need to question it.
“You’d better worry about yourself. Lucas and I have known each other for years.
“To me, you’re nothing but a woman who came in halfway. What right do you have to criticize me? And who exactly do you think you are?”
