So how could she possibly refuse to answer his call?
The moment the line connected, Edwin went straight on the offensive.
“Yvonne Song, how long are you planning to hide from me?”
Yvonne deliberately played dumb. “I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”
“If you really don’t understand, then I’ll just fly overseas to find you.
“And when I get there, I’ll speak to your parents about proposing. I think you’ll understand me then.”
“Wait!” Yvonne blurted out in panic.
Right now, Edwin genuinely scared her a little. She couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d gone completely mad.
“What do you mean? Were you serious about what you just said?”
Her heart pounded as she asked the question, though she already had a faint idea of the answer.
After all, she knew exactly how intense Edwin could be.
A person’s nature didn’t magically change. However, they were as a child often carried straight into adulthood.
And when Edwin was young, he already had obsessive tendencies. Back then, their little group would joke about it.
They’d laugh and wonder what kind of woman Edwin would end up marrying someday because his personality was withdrawn, extreme, even frightening at times.
Everyone teased that whoever became his wife would be terribly unlucky.
She had been one of the people making those jokes.
Thinking about it now, Yvonne wanted nothing more than to bury her face in her hands.
How had she been so naïve back then? Why had she gotten so close to him?
If she had known he’d been harboring feelings for her all that time, she would never have let their relationship grow so close.
“Of course not.”
His tone was unshakably firm.
“You’ve been by my side for years. You know exactly what kind of person I am.”
She swallowed. It was precisely because she knew what he was like that she felt afraid. How did she end up provoking someone like him?
Being around someone like him was like bargaining with a tiger.
Every second felt like tiptoeing on edge, terrified of doing something wrong.
Her voice carried a hint of pleading.
“For the sake of all these years, just let it go. Please look for someone else. We really aren’t a good match.”
She tried her best to reason with him. “Honestly, I think you misunderstood your own feelings. What you feel for me is just friendship.”
