Yvonne watched him sink deeper into thought, then stated her proposal outright.
“You already know the kind of influence I have here.”
She lifted her chin with quiet pride. “So, I can help you deal with Kenneth. Once he’s out of the way, won’t you be able to take Judy with you?”
His eyes lit up immediately. He had to admit that it was a solid plan.
He’d thought about something similar before, but he had never understood how power was divided overseas.
On top of that, he had no people of his own here, no network he could use.
So, he’d shelved the idea indefinitely.
But now, someone local was offering to help and offering real solutions.
Why refuse?
It was a far better option than he ever expected.
“You really want to help me?”
When he said it, there was a cautious edge to his voice.
He wasn’t sure whether he should trust her.
They barely knew each other—a random encounter on the street was the only reason they’d even met.
If he trusted someone he hardly knew, wouldn’t that make him an idiot?
If people heard about it, they’d laugh at how gullible he was.
If he hadn’t been careful in the past, during those confrontations with Lucas and Aurora, he might have disappeared from that city long ago without a trace.
That knowledge made him value his life even more. Everything he had now wasn’t easily gained.
He had fallen out with his father, had no one to rely on, and nothing came easy.
So no, he didn’t have the strength to win Judy back on his own.
“What? You’re not even curious about what I’ll ask you to do?”
He gradually took back the upper hand, realizing she was actually quite straightforward.
After all, everything came down to one goal—she’d never bothered hiding her intentions.
“You want me to help you deal with Aurora, right? I agree.”
Her eyes brightened with unexpected delight.
“You agreed just like that?”
“Of course. You’re offering to help me get Judy back. Why would I refuse a deal like that?”
His answer made her look quite pleased with herself.
“You’re right. You’d have to be an idiot to turn me down. Anyone with half a brain would choose to work with me.”
Seeing how proud she looked, Joseph found her a little amusing.
