Blizzard First Love and a Wife Who Finally Snaps novel Chapter 442

“Why isn’t this person meeting us in the city?” she asked Daniel.

Daniel said, “To be honest, I’ve never even met this contact myself. He has his reasons for hiding out in this remote place.”

“And you just trust him?” Evelyn was shocked. “I thought you had a handle on everyone in this network.”

Daniel felt he could be open with Evelyn; her relationship with Isabel was closer than that of biological sisters.

Isabel bringing her on this trip was proof enough.

He said, “It’s enough that we have leverage on him.”

Evelyn was silent for a few seconds, then gave him a thumbs-up.

Then she asked nosily, “So what’s the leverage on Mr. Blackwell? What could make all these people weave such a powerful network with him?”

Daniel glanced at Isabel.

What other leverage could there be? From the beginning, it had always been the same thing.

“The children,” he said. “And the fact that the Blackwell family isn’t exactly clean. The eldest son and daughter’s professions are also sensitive. It’s enough for others to exploit.”

Evelyn accepted that. “That makes sense.”

It grew completely dark, and with poor visibility on the mountain road, the car slowed down.

By the time they arrived at their destination, it was past midnight.

They were led to a rustic cabin in the mountains, but it was kept clean.

The food on the table was hot when they arrived.

Isabel found herself growing curious about this person.

Evelyn whispered to Isabel, “If the people here use your X-1, aren’t you just giving it away for free? At best, you’ll get a commemorative plaque for your trouble.”

“I know you have noble ambitions, and I have mountains of gold to help you, but you need to be careful. Some people won’t remember your kindness. Ironically, they’re more grateful when they have to pay a fortune for life-saving medicine.”

That was the principle of providing emergency aid, not endless charity.

There’s only one true disease in this world: poverty.
