“Once you’re divorced, you can finally come out and party with me.”

Isabel knew what kind of “party” she was talking about.

Evelyn had been mentioning it ever since she first decided on the divorce.

But because Isabel had been busy, they had never gotten around to it.

Besides, even though her relationship with Adrian was over, she didn’t feel like going out while she was still technically married.

“You’re the best!”

They arrived at City Hall at nine-thirty, but Adrian wasn’t there yet.

“You don’t think he changed his mind, do you?” Isabel was still a little worried.

“It’s fine, let’s just wait,” Evelyn comforted her. “As long as City Hall is open today, you can get it done.”

“It doesn’t have to be exactly at ten. He might have been delayed.”

Isabel called Daniel anyway.

She relaxed a bit when Daniel said they were on their way.

But ten o’clock came and went with no sign of them. She held back her impatience, but when noon arrived and the office closed for lunch, they still hadn’t shown up. She couldn’t wait any longer and tried calling, but Daniel’s phone wouldn't connect.

Just then, a news report came on the TV in the lobby, announcing a car crash on the freeway.

The license plate of one of the cars looked very familiar.

Evelyn saw it too. “That car… doesn’t it look like Adrian’s?”

Isabel was already on her feet, rushing toward the hospital.

Both Adrian and Daniel were in emergency surgery.

There were police officers at the door, along with the Blackwells.

When Mrs. Blackwell saw her, she raised a hand to strike her.

Evelyn caught her wrist. “Are you insane? You’re going to blame Isabel for a car crash?”

“If he wasn’t in such a rush to get a divorce, this wouldn’t have happened! You pushed him! You’re a jinx!”

Evelyn scoffed in disbelief, but before she could retort, Isabel tugged on her sleeve.

“Not now.”
