Chapter 453 She's Using You
Bethan sat there, her hands wrapped firmly around a water glass, a calm expression on her face.
If Megan hadn't made a mess of her life by getting hitched, having a kid with another guy, and doing all those bone-headed things, Hugh would've still been head-over-heels in love with her.
Megan was firmly convinced that Alina had used her family to lure her back to the States.
She was certain that Hugh was the mastermind behind this whole scheme.
Gwen scoffed, "That stupid woman is just as dumb as her aunt. Hugh's gonna get the Field family out of New York's social circle. Think Maria can marry a rich guy with a kid? Dream on!"
Bethan didn't say a word to argue back. She knew Hugh had the power to do that.
Deciding to change the topic, Bethan said, "Let's forget about those losers. How about you tell me about you and Mason?"
Gwen blushed slightly.
Leaning across the table towards Bethan, she whispered, "It was a drunken mistake on my part. Mason took the rap so people wouldn't badmouth me."
Bethan nodded approvingly. "Mason's a real stand-up guy. I heard the Cruise family's heiress still has a thing for him. You'd better keep a tight grip on him."
With a grin, Gwen pulled back. "Mason's mine. Any girl who tries to steal him will get a piece of my mind!"
Bethan raised her glass and clinked it with Gwen's.
She loved Gwen's bold and protective personality.
After taking a sip of her juice, Gwen suddenly remembered what Mason had told her.
She eyed Bethan nervously and asked, "Bethan, come clean. Are you and Mr. Dixon dating?"
Bethan shot back, "Did Mason put you up to this?"
If Hugh wanted to know, he'd ask her himself.
Mason had a sharp eye and plenty of tricks.
Without his push, Gwen wouldn't be asking this.
Gwen shook her head vigorously, denying it.
Just then, the waiter arrived with the food. Gwen forced a smile and said, "Bethan, dig in. We'll go see Yvonne this afternoon."

At 2:30 p.m., in the office of the Cavill Group's president, Alina burst in unannounced.
Jacob, unable to stop her, stepped back awkwardly to Hugh's desk. "Mr. Cavill," he murmured.
Right away, she apologized. "Sorry, Mr. Cavill. I shouldn't have bothered you without looking into the matter first."
"I don't know what you did to piss her off, but it's obvious she's using you," Hugh continued.
Alina balled her fists in anger.
Hugh's face, previously expressionless, turned icy. "Considering your father, I'll let this office intrusion slide, Ms. Potter." He paused briefly and then warned, "But if it happens again, don't expect me to go easy on you."
Alina quickly backed down. "Sorry, Mr. Cavill. I just lost my cool. You're a big guy. Please cut me some slack."
That crazy woman!
Alina was determined to get even.
Politely, she said, "Since this has nothing to do with you, Mr. Cavill, I won't waste your time. I'll take off now."
Without hesitation, Alina made a quick exit from Hugh's office.
Jacob watched as Hugh calmly sat back at his desk and got back to work. He couldn't help but be impressed by how smoothly Hugh had played the game of using someone else to do his dirty work.
Over ten minutes later, across the street from Cavill Group headquarters, Alina had just hopped into the car when her mom, Ivory, hit her with a question.
"So, what did Mr. Cavill say?"
