Because the subsequent events were so complicated, they didn't do another DNA test when they brought Natalie home. They believed she was their biological daughter; her elegant and refined demeanor was the very image of their family.
But what was Martin Doyle saying now? That Natalie wasn't their biological daughter? That their real daughter had drowned at the age of thirteen?
He was so confident, so certain, and he seemed to know they hadn't done a DNA test.
Elaine trembled, still unwilling to accept it. "You're lying. You're lying!"
"Whether I'm lying or not, you'll know once you do a DNA test. Natalie is not your daughter at all! You've been so foolish!"
Fiona stepped forward. "My father isn't talking nonsense." At this, everyone turned to look at Fiona.
Fiona looked at Natalie and said, "Mom was arrested and wanted to see you, but you always refused. The secret she wanted to tell you was that you're not a member of the Ward family at all. If you had just gone to see her, your true identity wouldn't have been exposed here today."
"Is that so? You were planning to use this to threaten me, weren't you?" Natalie asked coolly.
Natalie knew they wanted to blackmail her, to get something from her in exchange for their silence. She simply didn't want to make a deal with them, let alone pay them any attention.
She just never imagined this would be the truth.
The members of the Ward family were completely stunned.
