Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 184

Two days later.

Charlotte stepped out of the hospital’s surgical wing, squinting into the sunlight. There, by the revolving doors, she spotted Jonathan pacing back and forth, blending in with the flow of people coming and going.

She headed his way. “Jonathan?”

He turned, a faint smile flickering across his face. “Oh, it’s you.”

“What are you doing out here?”

He avoided her gaze. “Waiting for someone.”

In truth, he’d come looking for her. He just couldn’t come up with a good excuse, and he worried she’d taken Evander’s words to heart and wouldn’t want to see him anymore.

Charlotte caught on, then teased, “You know, the seats in the lobby are free. You could always wait inside.”

“I’m too restless to sit still.” His eyes drifted briefly to her midsection before he looked away. “How’s your mom doing?”

She nodded. “She’s doing well.”

“That day…” Jonathan hesitated, struggling for words. “I left so abruptly, didn’t even say goodbye to you or your mom. Did you both think there was something wrong with me?”

She smiled. “Don’t blame yourself for that. I didn’t expect Evander to show up either.”

Jonathan seemed relieved. “Charlotte, if you ever found out I did something unforgivable, would you stop talking to me?”

She frowned, puzzled. “Did you do something?”

“…I mean, if. Hypothetically.”

She thought for a moment. “Depends on the situation, I guess. I’m pretty forgiving. If it’s something small, I’d let it go.”

Jonathan just smiled and left it at that.

As he was about to leave, he suddenly paused and looked at her seriously. “By the way, you need to be really careful with your stomach.”

Charlotte froze, caught off guard by his tone. He’d never spoken to her like that before—no jokes, no lighthearted teasing.
