After saying that, Raymond seemed to gather all his courage before turning and leaving the ward.

“Raymond…”

Only after he left did Emery finally manage to call out his name, her voice weak and shaky.

Unfortunately, Raymond didn’t hear her. Even if he had, he probably wouldn’t have looked

back.

He didn’t dare and wouldn’t allow himself to turn around.

Emery wanted to get up and run after him, but she couldn’t do anything.

She had been listening carefully to every word her husband had just said.

The more she listened, the more something felt wrong. The more she listened, the more uneasy she felt.

For some reason, his words felt like a final message, like he was giving instructions in case something happened to him.

She didn’t want to curse him, and she didn’t wish any harm on him.

But the unease and the premonition made her anxious.

Yet, in her current condition, being anxious didn’t help at all. She couldn’t even contact her son or daughter.

For the first time, Emery felt completely useless, like she was nothing but a burden.

The next day.

Regina arranged to meet Raymond again and agreed to tell him who was backing her.

But the condition was the same; he had to bring that thing with him.

Raymond, of course, had no choice but to agree.

They set the meeting at a secluded, almost deserted location.

When Raymond arrived, he only saw Regina.

“Didn’t I tell you to bring the thing?”

Seeing that he was alone, Regina was clearly annoyed.

Raymond said, “Just bringing it here directly would be no different than giving up without a fight. Do I look that stupid to you?”

He sneered, then looked at her and added, “You’d better tell me first. Is the person behind you the leader of that organization?”

Not long after he spoke, someone slowly walked over.

When Raymond saw who it was, his brow instantly furrowed.

“So it really is you, Esmond.”

“You figured it out. Then why go through all this trouble calling me here? Wouldn’t it have been easier to just get straight to the point?”

The

person walking toward them was Esmond.

He still wore that same calm, polite, harmless look.

Who would guess that beneath the mask of this so-called “gentleman” was someone bloody, cold, and twisted?

“Now that I’m here, shouldn’t you hand over the item?” Esmond asked.

Raymond sneered. “Ha. You don’t really think I’m that naïve to believe that the person behind this is really you, do you?

“You’ve got people behind you too, right?”

Esmond shot back, “Hey, weren’t you just trying to find out who’s behind Regina? You didn’t ask me to dig through every single layer.”

He began picking at words, spreading his hands helplessly like he was innocent.

“You hypocritical fake! Regina is just a pawn to you. If you don’t stop, you’ll destroy yourselves sooner or later!”

Raymond stared at him, memories flashing of two terrible tragedies from the past.

The second son of the Jordans, Paul Jordan, and his wife died in a car accident.

And the rare genius of the Currans, Hendrick Curran, disappeared. They later declared him

dead.

Declared dead? He was clearly captured by the people behind them and held alive for experiments.

No one knows if he’s dead or alive.

These two shocking cases had stunned the entire business world. Everyone assumed they were accidents or mysterious disappearances.

Only Raymond and his leader had noticed subtle clues pointing to a huge hidden conspiracy.

And Esmond, standing before him now, was one of the key people who unraveled all of it.

Raymond stared at Esmond with cold eyes, as if trying to see straight through him.

Then he spoke slowly, word by word, “Can you really say that what happened to your brother and to Hendrick had nothing to do with you or the people behind you?”

Esmond replied, “Raymond, why are you bringing up things from so long ago?

“My brother and sister-in-law died in an accident. I still can’t accept it, and it breaks my heart. But I truly don’t know anything about what happened to the Currans.”

He looked helpless and deeply sad, as if he were in real pain.

Raymond pressed on, “Then what about Paul’s two children? Especially his younger son. He was gifted from a young age. Now he’s turned into that state. Are you saying that has nothing to do with you either?

“You people always hide behind the excuse of justice, talking about serving the country and the people. Is this what you call service-sacrificing living people for experiments?”

As he spoke, Raymond felt pure anger and disgust.

People should learn honestly, step by step, and succeed through their own hard work.

Those who always try to take shortcuts, stepping over other people’s bodies to climb higher, will one day destroy themselves.
