"To ensure he had a complete, functioning body, Piers was essentially dismantled."
Maeve had no idea the Fulton family harbored such a grim history.
She couldn't even begin to imagine whether the parents' decision was driven more by profound love or sheer cruelty.
Andres continued his explanation.
"This tragedy left Declan drowning in guilt toward his twin brother, forcing him to carry the weight of two destinies."
"Declan's mother and Nancy's mother are just as close as you and Naomi."
"The Grover and Fulton families have been eyeing a marriage alliance for years."
"Their joint announcement now isn't just about spiting you."
"It's also a calculated move to expand both families' power and influence."
A dangerous idea sparked in Maeve's mind.
"How long would it take to completely destroy the Grover family in the shortest time possible?"
"Faye's family is our biggest obstacle," Andres replied. "They're a rising political powerhouse. Even The Caldwell Family can't easily shake them."
The White family could stir up massive storms in the business world, but capital alone couldn't easily topple Faye's family in the short term.
After all, Faye's family had built their current success step by step.
Their network of connections was incredibly complex. Uprooting them one by one would require a significant amount of time.
This was the same obstacle that had prevented Andres from bailing Maeve out immediately when Nancy had framed her previously.
"But don't worry," Andres assured her. "Within two years, I'll make the Grover family disappear completely."
The thought of Nancy shamelessly booking her reception at The Grand Horizon Hotel disgusted Andres.
"I'll have the hotel manager cancel the Fultons and Grovers' reservation."
The Grand Horizon Hotel was his territory. Who they hosted and who they turned away was entirely up to him.
Maeve stopped him.
"Nancy wants to use a wedding to challenge me. Let her have it. We'll see who ends up publicly humiliated."
Seeing the calculated glint in his wife's eyes, Andres didn't push the issue.
The day after losing contact, Naomi finally called Maeve.
Her voice was rough and something sounded terribly off.
"I'm sorry, Maeve, for making you worry about my mess."
"I'm just calling to let you know I'm okay, but I don't think I'll be able to make it to your wedding."
