Maeve stayed at her parents' house for three days during this trip to Gotham.
And in those three days, she didn't catch a single glimpse of Titus Reed.
What on earth was her brother so busy with?
She tried calling Titus multiple times, but he hung up on her before she could even get three sentences out.
By the fourth day, Maeve's patience snapped. She dragged Andres along and stormed straight over to Titus's villa.
Andres was stunned to discover that Titus's home was only a five-minute walk from her parents' estate.
"Maeve, you two live this close? Why didn't we just walk over sooner?"
Maeve looked as though he had just poked a deep psychological wound.
"Unless it's an absolute emergency, I despise visiting his house."
"But aren't you and your brother incredibly close?" Andres asked.
He had seen with his own eyes how intensely protective Titus was of Maeve.
With their houses being a five-minute walk apart, it made no sense for her to avoid dropping in to say hello.
Maeve waved her hand dismissively. "There are some things you just don't understand."
But the moment Andres followed Maeve through the gates of Titus's property, the mystery was instantly solved.
Titus's villa was home to at least twenty massive dogs.
Every single one of them was built like a tank, with gleaming coats and deafeningly loud barks.
Maeve, who feared absolutely nothing in this world, instantly shrank against Andres the second she heard them barking.
Finally, the truth dawned on Andres.
"Maeve, don't tell me... you're terrified of dogs?"
Mason Reed opened the front door. Seeing Maeve and Andres standing there, he offered a perfectly polite smile.
"Mr. White, a pleasure to see you. Maeve, I heard you arrived three days ago. What took you so long to come visit?"
Maeve offered a rigid, humorless smile.
"Where is my brother?"
