Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 26

Before Andres could respond, Maeve added, "Then we can divorce. We have to follow their procedure."

"And if we run into mediation again?" he asked.

Maeve pulled her mask on right in front of him. "I'll try to play the battered spouse more convincingly this time."

Andres prided himself on his self-control. Still—he actually laughed.

When it was time to pay, everyone learned Mr. Andres had already covered the bill.

The gesture made Millie glow in front of her classmates.

Only Mateo could tell: Andres wasn't doing it for Millie. He was doing it for Maeve.

And Mateo's gut told him something was seriously off between those two.

Maeve, for her part, didn't care. Mateo, Millie—people like that were just passersby in her life. She'd forget them the moment she turned around.

She'd spent all night in the lab. Even after sleeping in, she still felt wrung out.

She took a quick hot shower and fell into bed half-awake.

This time she slept hard—so hard that when she surfaced into consciousness, she realized she was tangled up with a man, held close in an intimate embrace.

She opened her eyes.

Andres was asleep beside her again, an arm around her like he belonged there.

Sleeping softened him. The sharp edges disappeared; the usual dominance faded into something almost... peaceful.

The way they were wrapped around each other looked disturbingly like a couple in love.

That word couple snapped Maeve fully awake.

She shot upright and shook Andres hard. "Are you kidding me? You're addicted to sleeping in my bed now?"

Wrenched out of sleep like that, Andres came up disoriented, pure reflex taking over.

He reacted to the "intruder" with force.

Maeve tried to fight back, but her balance slipped—and she fell straight into his arms.
