Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 29

Master Moreno stroked his beard. "That's the strength of a binding. Forcing a divorce only creates endless trouble for both parties. Once tied, you rise together and you fall together."

His gaze lingered on Maeve, pointed. "You're one of us. You know what that means."

He'd been in the occult world too long not to see that Maeve was far from ordinary. As for how deep her skill ran—she hid it too well for him to measure.

Maeve had heard of bindings. She just never imagined that old bastard would put one on her.

Andres asked, "Is there a way to undo it?"

Master Moreno's eyes gleamed. "A child could change the shape of the bond."

A child? Did he mean... have a child?

Andres and Maeve were both speechless. And Hans, who'd been watching this like it was a live show, was also shocked.

After Master Moreno left, silence settled over the room.

Andres broke it first, looking at Maeve. "What do you think?"

Maeve stopped spinning her pen. "There is... one solution that barely qualifies as a solution."

Andres leaned in. "Say it."

Maeve said evenly, "The night before last, I didn't sleep. The next day, nothing happened. That means as long as we don't fall asleep at the same time, we can live without bothering each other."

Hans made a dramatic little motion across his lips like he was peeling off invisible tape. Finally—permission to speak.

"Sounds solid," he said. "Except one person is going to end up living nocturnal."

Maeve looked at Andres. "Want to take one for the team?"

Andres let out a short laugh, sharp with irritation. "Even if my father owed your father a debt, there are other ways to repay it. I'm not trading my marriage for it. And for the record, no one asked for my opinion from start to finish."

Maeve couldn't deny it—Andres really had gotten dragged into this.

Then, all at once, she remembered something the old man had said when she was little:

Her fate chart was strange. Her life would be disaster-prone. She'd need to marry someone with a special birth pattern to neutralize it.
