Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 290

Half an hour later, the car pulled up in front of Zero Bar.

Andres stepped out and immediately spotted a familiar face.

Declan.

Two tall men, both momentarily surprised to see the other here.

Declan greeted him first. "Small world."

Andres nodded. "Here for a drink?"

Declan jerked his chin toward the entrance. "Here to pick someone up."

Andres lifted a brow. "Miss Lowell?"

Declan understood instantly. "Miss Vance?"

As they talked, the bar door opened and people began spilling out.

Jasper and Maeve came out together, each supporting a very drunk Naomi.

Jasper was still complaining as he walked. "If you can't drink, don't drink. Serves you right, getting this wasted."

Maeve said quietly, "She's upset."

Finding out the man she cared about might be expected to marry a Grover daughter would sour anyone's mood.

Naomi hadn't said much all night—she'd just poured her feelings into drink after drink, swallowing anger and hurt with every sip.

Andres and Declan moved toward them at the same time.

Declan took Naomi from Jasper's arms. "I'll take her. Thank you both for looking after her."

Maeve didn't let go right away.

She looked up at Declan, openly challenging. "I heard the Fulton family once considered a marriage alliance with the Grovers?"

Declan froze.

And at the mention of the Grovers, Andres froze too.

Declan's gaze flicked instinctively toward Andres—Andres, just as instinctively, looked away.

Declan smiled, smooth as glass. "A rumor. Don't believe everything you hear."

Maeve's mouth curved slightly, but her voice was all steel. "Naomi is my best friend. Anyone who makes her unhappy… I'll make their whole family unhappy."

It was the first time Declan had seen that side of Maeve.

For a split second, something in her eyes looked like real intent—like violence kept on a leash.

He took Naomi from Maeve's hands. "I'll take care of her."
