Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 31

After he finished the overview, Hans added, "Miss Vance, the private study you requested is ready. Second floor—turn right, third room."

It was the only condition Maeve had set when Andres demanded they live together.

Hans checked the time. "Mr. Andres has a dinner engagement tonight. He'll be back late. If you need anything, you can tell the staff."

He kept talking, overexplaining every little thing, like one wrong detail might set her off.

Maeve had a strange kind of pull. She was supposed to be some wild girl from nowhere, yet she carried herself in a way that made people straighten up without thinking. Add in what the Morales family had done—and how she'd hit back—and it was hard not to feel a grudging admiration.

It wasn't romantic. Hans simply respected the way she moved through the world.

Noticing his genuine goodwill, Maeve said sincerely, "Thanks for tonight, Hans."

Hans hurried to respond. "It's what I'm supposed to do. It's getting late—I'll head out. Call me anytime if you need something."

Something in Maeve softened. "Hans. Wait a second."

She took out the pen she always carried, dug a small note pad from her bag, and began sketching with quick, practiced strokes.

Hans was too far away to see what she'd drawn, but he did notice the ink—red.

That was strange. At The Imperial 1908, he'd watched her sign with that same pen, and the ink had been black.

Before he could think it through, Maeve tore off the note, folded it into a peculiar shape, and slipped it neatly into his pocket.

"You made time in your schedule to help me move," she said. "This is a small thank-you. Keep it on you. Don't open it. Don't look at it."

She didn't give him the chance to question her. She patted the spot over his pocket. "Drive safe on your way back."

After Hans left, Maeve took in the living room. Aside from the obscene luxury, nothing stood out.
