Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 377

Andres cleared his throat, trying to save face. "I was young. Reckless."

Maeve looked perfectly calm. "Relax. I'm not blaming you. Every part of someone's life is what they were given."

"We don't get to stand on some moral pedestal and judge people for their past."

Covering her mouth with her hand, she leaned close to Andres's ear and whispered, "When I demanded you 'stay faithful' to me in front of everyone just now—I was acting. It was for their benefit."

"If we're selling the 'power couple' image, then I have to build myself a persona. The jealous, overbearing girlfriend."

"Once the persona sticks, it's easier to crush people who don't know their place. Like Landon."

Andres couldn't help it—her sharp little schemer's face was too adorable. He laughed.

He reached for her hand, holding it with a steadiness he didn't usually show. "Even if you didn't put on that act, I'd still be faithful to you."

Maeve arched a brow, teasing. "So you really did fall for me?"

Andres considered it. "More than 'like.' I think… this is what people mean when they say love."

Maeve's smile faded into something measured. "Love is a luxury. Don't promise it lightly."

"Because it's a luxury," Andres said, "it's something you hold carefully."

Maeve smiled again, but she didn't let herself sink into it. Feelings weren't her priority right now.

Maybe someday—when everything was settled, when the dust finally stopped flying—if she was still alive, she might consider taking another step with him.

Her eyes flicked sideways, and the corner of her mouth curled into a calculating little grin. "Whitty, what are you hoping to get out of tonight?"

Andres studied her. "Meaning?"

"Landon came here with you in his sights," Maeve said. "Do you want him to stay in this circle… or do you want to kick him out?"

Thinking about all the little stunts Landon had pulled behind the scenes, Andres felt the last of his patience drain.

"After tonight, our friendship is going to crack," he said. "And instead of keeping up fake peace, I'd rather have it out in the open."

Maeve nodded. "So you're ready to tear the mask off."

"I'm allergic to mind games," Andres said flatly.
