Maeve gracefully accepted Sylvia's compliment.
"My rule in life is simple: You show me respect, I show you respect. You mess with me, I hit back ten times harder."
The implication was clear: as long as they didn't make an enemy out of her, they could all be friends.
But the moment they tried to pull a fast one, she wouldn't hesitate to destroy them.
Sylvia easily caught Maeve's underlying message.
"Don't worry, Miss Vance. The Luminary Order will never be your enemy."
Elijah and Ian also chimed in, expressing their desire to remain on good terms with a fellow practitioner like Maeve.
Watching all of this, Andres felt a growing admiration for Maeve's abilities.
She had saved herself the effort, reaped all the benefits, and earned the awe of her peers in the process.
To have that kind of magnetic charisma at her age—Andres couldn't help but feel a swell of pride.
The ringing of a phone broke the atmosphere.
It was Hans. After listening to his report, Andres turned to Maeve.
"We found the person behind this."
Since the matter involved The Luminary Order, Elijah and the others wanted to tag along and see for themselves.
They needed to know the whole story so they could give their master a proper explanation.
When the group arrived at the scene, the sight nearly made them sick to their stomachs.
An elderly man, pushing eighty, was lying in a pool of blood, a pile of vomit resting nearby on the ground.
Seeing Andres arrive with the group, the old man used his last breath to force out a mocking smile.
"Plotted for half my life, and I still ended up getting caught by you, you cold-blooded shark."
Andres's handsome face darkened. "Uncle White, what kind of grudge could possibly make you go to such lengths to murder my mother?"
The man Andres called Uncle White was the previous butler of the White Manor.
His last name was also White. Kayden White.
He was someone Andres's grandfather had heavily relied on when he was alive.
Kayden looked Elijah up and down, a cold smirk touching his lips.
"So you're Master Veritas's top disciple?"
Elijah froze for a second. "You know me?"
Kayden clutched his chest and coughed violently.
With every cough, streaks of fresh blood spilled from his lips.
He looked like a candle burning its final wick; death wasn't far off.
After his coughing fit, Kayden finally looked back at Elijah. "Not only do I know you, I know exactly how you ended up in your Order."
"That playboy Henry Hayes's proudest achievement in life was fathering two sons."
"Even though they have different mothers, he loved bragging about it to anyone who would listen."
"I heard the two boys were born just three minutes apart."
"Because you both had unique fates, one was sent to The Luminary Order, and the other to The Void Order."
