"Her legs are dead," Natalia answered mechanically. "Even a god couldn't fix them."
Andres told himself to stay calm, but he seriously wanted to strangle the life out of this woman.
Swallowing his rage, he asked, "What is your relationship with Landon Hart and Anya Morales?"
"Mutually beneficial cooperation," Natalia replied.
"Be specific," Maeve prompted.
"Landon provided me with the funds I needed."
"Anya uses her hacking skills to dig up whatever information I want."
Maeve and Andres exchanged another look. Just as they suspected, this entire alliance was built on using each other.
"Did you bind my mother with that magic?" Andres demanded.
"Yes," she answered without hesitation.
"What kind of binding?"
"A puppet's tether."
Andres' voice turned ice-cold. "Why?"
"Once I control your mother, I'll have the perfect opportunity to hit you with a binding hex."
Hearing that made Andres want to erase her from existence even more.
"You want to use a binding hex on me?"
"Yes," she replied like a robot.
"Why?"
"Because I love you."
"We don't even know each other."
"We met ten years ago. You just forgot me."
"Ten years ago or ten minutes ago, we have never met," Andres stated firmly.
Natalia held her ground, trapped in her own reality.
"Ten years ago, in that cave, you told me you loved me. You promised to marry me."
"But you broke your promise. When you left, you left a letter behind, saying I was too ugly for you."
"If you're going to be that heartless, Andres, you can't blame me for using a binding hex to chain you to me."
"Once it's in your system, you have to be mine for the rest of your life. You won't have a choice."
Maeve slowly turned her gaze to Andres.
