Maeve had no idea Andres had just unraveled her closely guarded secret.
Her mind was currently entirely focused on Simon Grover's Lab C.
She had initially suspected Simon might try to pull a fast one with the contract.
But it turned out she was overthinking it.
"There's no rush to sign the paperwork. I'm taking you somewhere first."
Walking out of the café, Simon led Maeve straight to Lab C.
It was located in a twenty-seven-story commercial building in the heart of Aethelburg's business district, entirely owned by the Grover Group.
Simon's Lab C occupied the twenty-third through twenty-seventh floors.
The architecture of the building was quite unique.
Unlike traditional office towers, this one had two separate entrances.
As he led Maeve toward the labs, Simon gave her a brief rundown.
"The East entrance is for the Grover Group. The West entrance is exclusively for my Lab C."
"Anyone who wants to enter through the West doors must have a special pass issued by the lab."
"You understand. The lab deals with a massive amount of classified data."
"I'm a very cautious man. I don't compromise on principles."
As they spoke, Simon guided Maeve onto his private elevator.
This elevator was reserved solely for him.
He pressed the button for the top floor.
As they ascended, Simon double-checked with Maeve.
"If you want to back out, there's still time."
"Compared to taking the test, I genuinely think working as my assistant is much better for your career path."
"Because if you fail the test, you will lose the chance to enter Lab C forever."
"Out of all the brilliant biology students at Aethelburg University, I handpicked you."
"I'd hate to see you ruthlessly eliminated by reality in the very first round."
Stepping out, Maeve was greeted by a massive, open-concept office space.
Decorated entirely in stark black and white, it felt like stepping into an alternate dimension.
Every detail showcased an avant-garde design style, pushing the boundaries of modern aesthetics.
Simon gestured around. "Welcome to my world. This is my private office."
He motioned to the seating area. "Have a seat anywhere."
In the center of the vast space sat a set of uniquely shaped black-and-white sofas.
Maeve didn't bother with formalities. She picked a comfortable spot and sat down naturally.
She expected Simon to keep rambling, but this time, he was direct.
"Hold on. I'm going to introduce you to two people."
Simon pressed a sleek button on his desk intercom.
"Come up to my office."
About two minutes later, there was a knock at the door.
