Treated like a clueless bachelor, Hans felt profoundly wronged.
"Boss, I basically served you up a golden opportunity with Miss Vance. Even if you don't appreciate the genius of it, you could at least acknowledge the effort. Isn't crushing my fragile ego a bit cruel?"
Andres stared at Hans, his gaze heavy with meaning.
"You've changed."
"I'm completely innocent," Hans protested. "My loyalty to you is as clear as day."
"Hans, you've gotten significantly more talkative than you used to be."
Only then did Hans realize that, without him even noticing, his dynamic with Andres had become far more relaxed and casual.
"Boss, I'm not the one who changed. You are."
In the past, Andres had drawn a hard, impenetrable line between business and his personal life. He never allowed anyone to overstep, and he never let his own guard down.
But somewhere along the line, his rigid edges had begun to soften.
He no longer treated strict hierarchy as the most vital thing in the room. He had stopped wearing that cold, unapproachable mask with the people closest to him.
To Hans, the current Andres felt infinitely more human.
It was exactly because this once god-like man had descended to earth that Hans had subconsciously altered how he interacted with him.
And the catalyst for all of it was Maeve.
Andres didn't waste his breath arguing the point.
"If you're coming to me with a report at this hour, it had better be important."
The unspoken message was clear: You interrupted quality time with my wife.
Hans immediately got down to business.
Orca Group was just one of the many assets under his name, and the only one that operated entirely in the public eye. Planting spies there was useless because they would never get access to anything sensitive.
He rarely even went to the office. When he did, he only dealt with a handful of completely trusted executives. For a regular employee, getting a glimpse of him was harder than scaling a mountain.
The moles Silas had outed were either mid-level managers or bottom-tier staff.
They were entirely useless pawns.
Hans couldn't mask the flicker of concern in his eyes.
"Boss, I heard Nancy is coming back to the country soon."
"What does her returning have to do with me?" Andres asked coldly.
"If Miss Vance finds out about Nancy's existence, I'm worried it might cause a misunderstanding later."
Given the fact that Nancy had planted spies in Orca Group, it was painfully obvious she still harbored an obsession with him.
