Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 55

Anya looked like jealousy might literally make her combust.

The outage had lasted nearly a full minute.

What had Andres and Maeve done in that minute?

Sarah pointed, eyes wide. "Mr. Andres—your lip is bleeding."

Andres released Maeve and calmly wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. His voice carried an unmistakable edge of intimacy.

"Too dark. Must've bumped into something while peeling the grape." His gaze slid to Maeve. "That's right, isn't it, Miss Vance?"

Maeve gave a short, mocking laugh. "Sure. Whatever you say."

She looked exactly like a spoiled girlfriend in the middle of a lovers' spat.

They were adults. Some things didn't need to be spelled out.

Whatever had happened in that minute—if Andres didn't want it discussed, no one was stupid enough to press.

When the night finally broke up, everyone filed out of 1908.

The moment they stepped into the hallway, Quinn's phone rang. He drifted aside to take it.

Landon couldn't hold his liquor. One bottle and he was done. Michael and Sarah each took an arm, half-dragging him along.

Michael grumbled, "If you can't drink, don't drink. Look at you—pathetic."

He stumbled, then snapped, "Easy. My arm's messed up—I can't put weight on it. Andres, don't just stand there. Give me a hand."

Andres waved over two staff members. "Get him a room. He's not going anywhere tonight."

The staff took Landon from Michael, and Sarah followed them toward the guest rooms.

Michael rubbed his sore arm and muttered, "Damn it… I pulled it again."

Maeve, who'd been typing on her phone, paused beside him. "Old injury?"

Michael hadn't expected her to care. "Yeah. I had an accident a while back. Thought it healed, but it flares up every time I strain it."

Maeve gripped his arm and felt along the muscle and bone. "A slight displacement. I can set it."

She made it sound like nothing.

Her fingers, however, were anything but gentle.
