As if reading his mind, Maeve patiently offered one more explanation.
"I really didn't bump into you on purpose."
Barton asked, "Which department do you work in?"
Maeve replied cleanly, "No comment."
Barton smirked. "Playing hard to get?"
Maeve stared at him. "Sir, I have absolutely zero interest in married men."
The wedding band on Barton's ring finger made his marital status perfectly clear.
Barton shrugged. "Marriage is just a formality."
Maeve raised an eyebrow.
"And?"
Barton took a few steps closer, closing the distance between them, and lowered his voice near her ear.
"I'm just curious. Which department are you in?"
Maeve was slightly shorter than him, but her aura didn't yield an inch.
She replied in the exact same manner, leaning close to his ear.
"I'll say it again. It's none of your business."
The Grover Family really was something else. Unbelievable!
Without giving Barton another chance to banter, Maeve turned on her heel and strode away without looking back.
Watching her retreating figure, Barton rubbed his chin.
"That girl is interesting."
He glanced at the assistants trailing him.
"Do we have her personnel file?"
One of the assistants stepped forward.
"Boss, this area falls under your younger brother's jurisdiction."
Barton finally remembered that he was here to discuss business with Simon.
By now, Maeve had already pushed through the doors and left the Grover Group building.
Barton reluctantly withdrew his gaze.
"So that beautiful girl works for Lab C?"
Recalling Maeve's breathtaking face, a profound look flashed through Barton's eyes.
He ordered his assistant.
Today was the sixth day of Maeve's evaluation at Lab C.
He desperately wanted her to pass smoothly.
But selfishly, he also wanted her to sever ties with Lab C as quickly as possible.
Just then, Hans received a text on his phone.
After scanning the message, Hans delivered some terrible news.
"Mr. White, the officials have scheduled you to be here for at least three days."
Andres raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean, 'at least three days'?"
Hans sighed. "The actual summit ends today, but several key leaders want to have private meetings with you afterward."
Andres despised this kind of mandatory networking.
He thought he could get everything done in one day, but now it was dragging out to three.
"So for the next three days, Maeve is going to be jerked back and forth between Aethelburg and Lumiere City?"
The Binding was truly a double-edged sword.
Unless they staggered their sleep schedules, things were going to get extremely complicated.
