After finishing the ointment, he tucked the covers tightly around Maeve.
"Get some sleep. I'll wake you up to eat when dinner is ready."
Snuggled in the warm bed, listening to the rhythmic patter of rain against the glass, Maeve drifted off almost instantly.
Andres sat by her bedside for a short while.
Confirming that she was completely fast asleep, he felt a twinge of envy—the little girl's sleep quality truly was phenomenal.
He leaned down, pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, and quietly slipped out of the room, closing the door behind him.
Out in the living room, Hans and Murray were deep in conversation.
Seeing Andres emerge from the bedroom, the two men immediately stood up.
Murray practically pounced on the question. "How is Miss Vance doing? Do we need to call a doctor over to take a look?"
Andres held up a finger to his lips, gesturing for silence.
Only after fully securing the bedroom door did he walk over to the living area.
"Just some superficial wounds. Nothing major."
"As for a doctor, hold off on that for now."
If a doctor saw Maeve's burns, they would have a very hard time explaining them away.
Andres turned his attention to Hans.
"Any updates from the clubhouse?"
He had left in such a rush earlier that he completely threw the summit out of his mind.
Hans replied, "Mr. Perez informed us that the summit has been pushed back to 1:30 PM tomorrow."
"He also requested a private meeting with you at 10:00 AM tomorrow. Said there are some matters he needs to discuss in person."
"I've also looked into the situation with the younger Nichols from the Cosmos Group."
"The reason he holds such deep animosity toward you is all because of one person—Rosalind Russell of the Russell family in Gotham."
Andres was thoroughly confused.
"Rosalind Russell? Who? Do I know her?"
Hans fought back a smile.
"You've never actually met Miss Russell face-to-face, Boss."
"Wherever there are women, drama follows. Just think about the ancient emperors—how many of them actually lived to a ripe old age?"
"Besides, you and Miss Vance are legally married now."
"Boss, there's something I probably shouldn't say, but..."
Andres and Hans snapped in unison, "Then shut up!"
But Murray stubbornly forced the forbidden sentence out anyway.
"I really think you should go to a temple and pray, Boss. Attracting all these unwanted romantic entanglements is a very bad sign."
He hurriedly tacked on one last thought.
"If Miss Vance finds out, she'll definitely be upset."
"And if Miss Vance is upset, a lot of people are going to end up very upset along with her."
Among them, me included.
However, Murray didn't dare say that last part out loud to his boss's face.
Andres, suddenly scorned for attracting too much bad romance, fell silent.
