"But just because I seduce you, does that mean you have to take the bait?"
"As a man, do you really have zero self-control? And if a man lacks self-control, doesn't that make him prone to cheating?"
"Then after he cheats, he'll confidently justify it by blaming everyone else."
Eavesdropping from the front seat, Murray was speechless. The logic was completely fractured, and he needed a moment to untangle it.
Andres was equally baffled. "Maeve, are you too drunk to think straight?"
"I'm drunk, not stupid," Maeve retorted. "Getting so defensive... did I strike a nerve?" She poked his chest. "You men are all the same. Put a beautiful woman in front of you, and you suddenly forget the definition of boundaries."
Andres stared at her. What exactly had he done to deserve this?
Maeve clearly wasn't going to let him off the hook. "If another woman had been sitting next to you tonight, would you have lost control just like this?"
Her sheer unreasonableness actually made him laugh. "Are you jealous?"
"Jealous of who?" she challenged.
"An imaginary rival you just made up in your head."
Andres rarely saw Maeve act this irrational. While her pettiness was somewhat endearing, he knew that if he genuinely pissed her off, he wouldn't be able to handle the fallout. Declan had sent him the address to The Imperial. Remembering why Maeve had left Lumiere City so early, Andres suddenly connected the dots.
He pulled the swaying, intoxicated woman into his arms. "Alright, it's all my fault. From now on, I promise not to waste a single word on irrelevant women."
The root of all this evil was that scumbag Declan. Maeve was definitely projecting her fury over Naomi's broken heart onto him. In this situation, regardless of right or wrong, an apology was his safest bet.
Maeve immediately pounced on his words. "So what exactly did you do wrong?"
Andres went silent. He really wanted to know what he did wrong, too. If he had to pick a flaw, it was simply that he shared a gender with Declan. To pacify the little demon in his arms, he swallowed his pride and lied through his teeth. "Whatever makes you happy. I'm wrong in whichever way you want me to be."
