Slade didn't answer Maeve right away. Instead, his dark eyes locked onto Jasper.
"Did you spill all this to her?"
Jasper's face flushed a vivid mix of red and white.
"I'm not an idiot! Why the hell would I brag about dragging up to pull a con? It's humiliating!"
Even though Maeve was his best friend, there were some things Jasper kept permanently vaulted.
Admitting he had paraded around as a woman was a guaranteed way to get laughed out of the room.
Having spent considerable time with Jasper's female alter-ego, Slade had to agree the guy wasn't the sharing type.
Jasper was as cunning as a fox, constantly calculating his next angle.
And, admittedly, his disguise had been utterly flawless.
Otherwise, he never would have kept Slade in the dark for so long.
He had even managed to steal highly classified files from a man renowned for his brutal paranoia.
All of Slade's life regrets combined didn't equal the massive loss he took from Jasper alone.
That was precisely why he was willing to burn the world down to drag Jasper back and break him.
Slade had zero clue what Maeve was truly capable of.
But Andres knew perfectly well.
She had obviously done a deep dive into Slade's background on the ride over.
And dug up the entire sordid history between the two men in the process.
"Slade, do me a favor. Let the past die tonight."
"Whatever your company lost, put it on my tab. Consider it my personal apology for Jasper."
Jasper couldn't believe his ears.
Was Andres White actually being serious?
"Put it on his tab?"
That was tens of millions of dollars.
He shot Maeve a skeptical glance, as if asking: "Is your boyfriend insane, or just flexing?"
Maeve was equally surprised by Andres's offer.
Both she and Jasper could easily cover the damages out of pocket.
