Caught entirely off guard by the kick, Andres nearly tumbled right off the edge of the bed.
His mind instantly jolted awake.
Rubbing the spot where she had struck him, Andres asked innocently, "Why did you kick me?"
Maeve glared at him through the pitch-black room.
"You completely ruined my ability to sleep."
Andres finally realized Maeve was genuinely irritated.
He fought back a smirk.
"How about we continue our earlier conversation, then?"
Maeve reached out and tapped a sensitive spot on his chest.
"Instead of talking about your childish insecurities, I'd rather just drain you dry."
Andres's eyes darkened with sudden heat, and he swiftly yanked the siren back into his arms.
He murmured against her ear, his voice thick with seductive tension.
"When my wife makes a demand, how could I possibly deny her?"
The end result was predictable.
Instead of draining the culprit who ruined her sleep, Maeve suffered the tragic fate of being devoured over and over again.
By the time she finally woke up, it was already 10 AM.
To be more accurate, she was ripped from her sleep by the shrill ringing of her phone.
Still groggy and exhausted, she reluctantly answered.
It was Naomi Lowell.
The moment the call connected, Naomi's voice pierced through her eardrum.
"Where are you?"
Maeve let out a massive yawn and mumbled, "In bed."
"Are you in bed alone or with company?" Naomi asked.
Maeve glanced at the empty space beside her pillow.
The man who had relentlessly tormented her all night was nowhere to be seen.
"Just me. Why?"
"Give me ten minutes," Naomi replied.
Exactly ten minutes later, Naomi arrived at Azure Bay carrying a beautifully wrapped gift box.
The moment she saw Maeve, she pulled her into a tight hug.
"Happy Birthday, Maeve!"
Trapped in the embrace, Maeve blanked.
She was terrified that the younger girl would spiral and end up taking more lives in a fit of vengeance.
She quickly changed the subject.
"Where's your husband?"
Azure Bay was wired with security cameras, and there were certain things Maeve didn't want broadcasted to anyone listening.
She led Naomi into the privacy of her study.
"There's a saying: a husband is only yours when he's within your sight."
"As for what he's doing when he's out of my sight? I don't ask, I don't pry, and I honestly don't care."
True to her word, Maeve rarely asked where Andres went or what he did during the day.
After casually browsing Maeve's study, Naomi sank into a comfortable armchair.
Seeing Maeve's sheer apathy toward her own marriage, Naomi couldn't resist going into lecture mode.
"I've interacted with your husband a few times. Regardless of what his reputation is out in the world, he is incredibly devoted to you."
"He stands up for you when you need help, and he shielded you from danger during those terrible storms."
"You're already legally married, and his good traits clearly outweigh the bad."
"You should be putting effort into building a real relationship with him, instead of treating him like a stranger and locking him out of your heart."
"Maeve, truly good men are incredibly rare. If you don't have a better option lined up, you might as well just surrender to this one."
